that I can hardly bear to read, the stuff of lovers' notes.
And yet I’m holding in my hand the last letter you wrote

I was living at home alone
Still thinking you may care
And in my dreams I’d see you in that hat and that old yellow coat
And I’m looking for a meaning in the last letter you wrote

I studied the words in your beautiful hand,
Tried reading between the lines
What was written was written
There was nothing there to find

Every day I check my mailbox

Sometimes I’d put a pen to paper
