lyrics

Woman in the mist
Roger four-string guitar, Louis piano, Shimna violin

When all the world was wrapped in fog, air barely fit for breathing
I met a women bent low down , at her breast a baby feeding
Her face was sad her clothes were rags her eyes they did beseech me
I could not cast my own aside I tried you must believe me

She said "kind sir can you please spare me something for the babby
He has no toys and no father, his skin is cracked and scabby
But he is everything to me and I must clothe and need him
Please kind sir I’ll offer you my body to just to feed him”

“You are man of fortitude. I can see your life's been easy
But me, I have been born into a world beset by mis'ry
Come sit beside me watch my child see his fingers grasping
Tell me what is his destiny? Or go your way in passing”

I knew not how to answer her I felt the fog fold round me
I said goodbye and left her there, the thought of her still hounds me
I’ve seen that face, those eyes, that child, that mother in the mist
Has time been kind or has she been the woman no one ever missed?
