about

The Aral Sea

lyrics

Lifeblood
Roger guitars, Louis piano, Stuart bass, Shimna violin, Adam drums

We used to feed ten thousand mouths, from the fertile sea
Wind from the north, rain from the south as it was meant to be
With untold fishes in the depths our tables always full
Day and night we’d be haul the nets, with more than enough to pull

Now there’s nothing left to here keep us, nothing to the sea
I’m kneeling down in dirt where water used to be

The ships are stranded high and dry, there’s no water anywhere
Dust clouds rolling in the sky, poison blowing in the air
We used to have a busy town, down by the water’s edge
Until they drew the rivers down, left a wasteland, dry and dead

Now there’s nothing left to here keep us, nothing to the land
I’m kneeling down in dirt it trickles through my hand

That lifeblood once our livelihood, been turned to growing cotton,
Our families and our friends are gone, our way of life forgotten
I’m staring across at this barren plain, my tears too cease to run
The sea won’t lap this land again the life we knew is done

There’s nothing left to here keep us, nothing to the sea
I’m kneeling down in dirt where water used to be
